Geneveive Newman interviews Ben Rubin, Horror Collections Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh’s Archives and Special Collections about all things horror archives! In this interview they discuss the day-to-day workings of archival collections and spaces, the breadth of the horror genre, and the uniqueness of physical archival materials, special collections, and rare books.
Ben Rubin is the Horror Collections Coordinator with Archives and Special Collections in the University of Pittsburgh’s Library System. He is also a long-time horror fan, past organizer for StokerCon with the Horror Writers Association, and expert on the genre.
Geneveive Newman is the current New Review of Film and Television Studies Online Editor and holds a PhD in Film and Media Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. Her work focuses on feminist approaches to medium and genre, with a particular specialty in representations of sexual violence. She has published on horror video games from ecocritical and Disability Justice perspectives for Studies in the Fantastic. She currently serves as Co-Chair for both the SCMS Horror Studies Scholarly Interest group and the SCMS Disability Caucus. She is also a filmmaker whose creative work focuses on trauma and whose work blends horror aesthetics with women’s collage film practices.
